Nihar Chakravarty had woken up slightly depressed. The pain on the chest was punching him. So much to do, so much to tell the children, their spouses – his two son(s)-in-law but he knew he had very little time. So little motivation left. Yes, that was the most depressing part. The pain was getting unbearable. The visit to the doctor in the far off nursing home in the district town has not helped much. Unnecessarily, we had to cough up so much money. His eldest son was predictably disturbed. The pain would be killing and at last, Niharbabu passed on to comma. But that was it….. The journey from comma to full stop came sooner than his ‘urgent’ auto drive in the three-wheeler to the local hospital. Niharbabu had collapsed.

The 6th of May would unknowingly haunt him. Initially it was once in a while phenomenon ….. something not regular but lately – in last six years or so – it has become the regular feature of his life. May 6th: birthday of Kakoli Sen, someone Dhruv always admired and believed there was the similar appreciation in reciprocation. It was on this day, he had spoken to her first. It was on this day …. after a year – they had parted ways – never to talk about each other nor to talk to each other – ever. Memories have been always like floodgates to Dhruv – easier to open and tough to close. He remembered the first tele talk. She sounded sweet and sexy ….. There was an air of precipitous urgency about her. She wanted him to get into the business of ‘affair’ and ‘dating’ as early as possible. But Dhruv was in no hurry. The idea of marriage never excited him in the first place. Thus, he had thought; there is time. Let me not hurry it up, slow and steady he wanted to win the race. Thus the talk would range from movies to holiday spots and as she was already into a part-time job writing for a mofusil newspaper; they did talk about working atmosphere in a news room. How senior scribes would simply stammer in front of the bosses or how the jobs for the young gals were often certain but punctuated with certain subtle riders? He was little amused. But then he agreed for a meeting. Then, a few more. Interactions soon resulted in mutual admiration for each other.

Bengali Novel SHOPNO Chapter 1 : WBRi Bangla Online Magazine

Japanese Food

makiandnigirisushi

On our trip to Tokyo, we ensured that we never touched the Big Mac and concentrate only on the great food that the country Japan had to offer. And since we had named our child Oishi, which in Japanese language means ‘very very good/tasty/delicious’ we felt it was our responsibility to use the word whenever we wanted to.

Arabian Nights

Arabian cuisine is sometimes described as refined art; such is its diversity and richness. It is influenced by dozens of cultures, and its spicy dishes reflect the fact that the Arabian nations that also includes Egypt was either the source or the way for spices that eventually spread to the whole world. Rice and various legumes, especially lentils and chickpeas are staples of main course dishes and it also includes lots of salads made from both fresh vegetables and fruits. Meaty items like lamb, chicken and beef plays an important role in the cuisine, be it in grilled or barbequed form and blends of common ingredients like coriander, cumin, mint and other Arabian spices adds to the uniqueness of this fare. Lebanese cuisine plays a very important role in placing Arabian food in the world map of exotic food.
