Billed as a "period film" set in the 1870s, Salman Khan seems to be a warrior the likes of Conan or lately Russel "Maximus Decimus Meridius" Crowe. The movie is shot in India, and the buzz is it is "inspired" by the Russian literary classic "Taras Bulba" written by Nikolai Gogol.

In "Taras Bulba", Taras is the head of a Cossack warrior family with two sons who make a long journey into a battle with the the Polish. In Veer, Mithun is the dad, with Salman and Sohail as the sons.

Many poeple are not aware that Salman Khan is an avid reader with a diverse interest. Salman has reportedly expressed his wish of playing the role of Rama, the hero of the Indian epic Ramayana.
