Nandini Ramnath, a film editor at Time Out Mumbai, has been quoted in the July 12, 2009 edition of the Washington Post in an article "India's Second Take On Terror" by Rama Lakshmi: "Directors of low-budget quickie movies seem to be quite happy to tackle films about the 26/11 attacks because of the sensationalism inherent in the incidents ... Patriotic kitsch always works." I cannot agree with Nandini more, and the recent Bollywood movie "New York" that tries to cash in on the 9/11 attacks is also very disturbing.

Regardless, 28 year old Hindi film actor Rajan Verma plays the role of Aajmal Amir Kasab, the only surviving terrorist who is on trial for the death of 170 people including six Americans.

Fortunately, it appears that TOTAL TEN does away with idiotic Bollywood style song/dance numbers and romantic subplots. If so, the script writers are to be commended. In addition, the director Surinder Suri has said that this movie is a tribute to the Mumbai Police who lost many officers over these attacks. Probably the movie TOTAL TEN is not as assaulting to the senses as the future ones lined up.

Bollywood did not wait to hedge its chances on a blockbuster box-office hit movie based on the terrorist attacks even before it was over and people were still getting killed. Over 30 names have been registered with the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association and Association of Motion Picture and Television Programme Producers for projects centered on the Mumbai attacks of 11/26/2008, including "Taj Terror", "Operation 5-Star Mumbai", "26/11 Mumbai Under Terror", "Shootout At Taj", "Shootout At Oberoi", "Shootout At CST", "Operation Black Tornado", "Operation Cyclone", "Ultimate Hero", "The Real Hero", "Woh 60 Ghante", "Taj To Oberoi" and so on. Even "26" and "26/11" have been registered by Bollywood Producer Kumar Mangat.

Producer Sanjay Jha Mastan is at least honest and upfront about his planned 26/11 movie. He is quoted in the same Washington Post article mentioned above as saying "I will not preach. I want to entertain. I will even find ways to include songs in my movie".

One wonders what, if anything, the Bollywood movie industry would like to say to the families of the 170 dead people.
