In 1945, the legendary Bengali Adhunik Song and Bangla Film Song Singer / Composer / Music Director, Hemanta Mukherjee, married Bela Mukherjee who was herself a talented singer. Bela Mukherjee had sung some successful popular Bengali Film Songs in the Movie Kashinath (1943) with music by the great Pankaj Kumar Mullick. However, Bela Mukherjee gave up her career as a singer after marrying Hemanta.
Hemanta and Bela have two children: Jayanta Mukherjee, son, (who is married to the famous Bengali & Hindi Film Actress Moushumi Chatterjee) and Ranu Mukherjee, daughter. Ranu Mukherjee is a brilliant singer, but commercial success eluded her.
