Rang Rasiya has been making rounds in International Film Festivals for some time. It debuted at the The Times BFI London Film Festival in 2008. Commercial release is expected soon.

The Hindi film is based on the Biographical novel in Marathi by Ranjit Desai about the famous and controversial 19th Century Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma. Verma is famous for his paintings of Indian mythological characters, Gods, and Godesses, sometimes in the nude, and displaying human emotions. The artist's freedom clashed with contemporary social and legal values and conflict.

The English version of the movie is named "The Color Of Passion". Nandana Sen, the daughter of Nobel Laureate Economist Amartya Sen, plays the role of Sugandha, whose beauty and passion was central to the creative energy of Ravi Verma. There is some media buzz about some topless shots of Nanadana Sen in the film, but I am sure such shots are important to the movie and taken with sensitivity and aesthetics that are in tune with the artistic theme of the film, and completely devoid of adult movie type sleaze that some may imagine such scenes to be. There are reportedly three lip kissing scenes and one topless shot that caused alarms at the Indian Film Censor Board.

Rachna Shah plays Kamini, Ravi Verma's first muse. UK-born Ferena Wazier plays the role of a Parsi lady. This is also the debut Bollywood feature film for actress Triptha Parashar who plays the role of a princess, as well as costume designer Sangeeta Kathiwada.
