The upcoming Bangla film is a cinematographic rendering of the Rabindranath Tagore classic "Nauka Dubi". Tagore wrote the brilliant "Chokher Bali" 1903 and followed it with another fantastic work "Nouka Dubi" in 1906.

In Rituparno's movie version, the character mapping is:

Kamala: played by Riya
Hemnalini: Raima
Ramesh: Jishu
Nalinaksha: Priyanshu

In 1947, director Nitin Bose had made a movie from the same story. Noukadubi (1947,Bengali) starred Abhi Bhattacharya , Pahari Sanyal , Shyam Laha and Priti Majumdar in the lead roles.
