15th April or Poila Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year is unique in many ways in the heart and mind of us, the Bengalis. With a day full of celebrations, delicious food and exchange of wishes to each other or the offerings of Puja to the nearest temple with the “Haal Khata”, the new accounts book for any Bengali businessman.

Of late, another event has become synonymous with Poila Boishakh, and that is Bangla (Bengali) Sangeet Mela.

Like the Kolkata Book Fair, Bangla Sangeet Mela is the source of musical and intellectual enrichment for the cultural Bengali of Kolkata and its neighboring areas, and also a scope for the various record companies of Kolkata to exhibit and sell the latest and best of their musical albums.
