Azhar: Feature Film Inspired by Real-Life Events; Leaves Audiences to Judge Cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin for Themselves

Mumbai, April 29 - With the release of the movie Azhar just 2 weeks away, many have been wondering what they can expect to see from one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Since the release of the trailer, speculation about how the movie will portray the legendary Indian batsman has been very high, especially when it is set during a very controversial stage of Mohammad Azharuddin’s life.

Cinema has always been a medium inspired by various events, small or large. Azhar only takes inspiration from the former Indian captain's life. He was not only the most celebrated but also went on to become one of the most controversial cricketers in India, making him a spectacular subject.

The makers have worked closely with Azharuddin himself. The aim of the film is to depict these key moments and let the audiences make their judgment about Azhar.

Though Azhar is not a biopic, it is based on some well-known incidents and facts of former Indian cricket captain Azharuddin’s life. The film is directed by Tony D’Souza and stars Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, NargisFakhri and Lara Dutta along with others. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, ShobhaKapoor and Sony Pictures Networks, the film is slated to release on May 13th, 2016. It is a Balaji Motion Pictures and Sony Pictures Networks’ production.
