ADIM RIPU is the first of a Satyanbeshi Byomkesh Bakshi trilogy directed by Singer-Songwriter-Director Anjan Dutta. The next Bengali film in the trilogy will be CHITRACHOR. Shooting for Adim Ripu has started on July 19, 2009.

In many ways, Saradindu Bandyopadhyay created the first true detective crime series in Bengali with Byomkesh Bakshi - Byomkesh & Ajit mystery stories remain one of the finest world-class mystery series even today.

Attempts have been made previously to dramatize Byomkesh for the small or big screen, notably Rajit Kapoor on TV playing the role of Byomkesh Bakshi was appreciated by many, including myself.

Bomkesh Bakshi is one of a rare few detective characters who has a wife (Samuel Dashiell Hammett’s Nick Charles is another one). Satyabati, Bomkesh Bakshi's wife, is a beautiful and cerebral woman - whose intelligence was as much an attraction for Byomkesh as her dusky beauty. Director Anjan Dutta recently annouced that the beautiful Bengali actress Ushashi Chakraborty will play the role of Satyabati. Among other movies, Ushasi Chakrabarty has recently starred in the Bengali blockbuster Kaaler Rakhal (2009).

Now Anjan Dutta - the singer/songwriter turned movie director, is directing the upcoming new Bangla film "Adim Ripu" based on the Byomkesh Bakshi Mystery Story of the same name by Saradindu Banerjee. Reportedly, the bengali sensuous beauty - actress Swarna Kamal Dutta - will play the role of the woman at the center of the cause and effect of this crime thriller.
