Kolkata, September 6 (Washington Bangla Radio): The shooting for Joydeep Ghosh’s “Shesh Anker Khela” is in full swing at Portland Park in New Alipore. Based on a suspense thriller written by Anish Deb, the film has Mumtaz Sorcar, Kharaj Mukherjee, Anindya Banerjee as cast members.

Wiping the sweat from his face and between calling the shots, the director Joydeep Ghosh took out time to talk with WBRI correspondent about his film. “This is the first time in Bengali films when a lady sleuth will be shown. Mumtaz is playing the role of a tough IPS officer who will be shown investigating the disappearance of a seven year old girl. There are two murders in the film. How she unravels the murder is what the whole film is all about” said the director. The film will be shot in various parts of the city and in North Bengal. There are two songs in the film- a romantic number and an item song. The songs will be played in the background. The characters will not be seen running around the trees. “I have tried to make the film on the likes of films like Antony Firingi. This will start a new genre in the Bengali films” added the director. The choice of Mumtaz in the lead role was very obvious, according to the director. “She is a trained boxer and is very athletic. Apart from this she is a good actress. This makes her the perfect choice for the role of the IPS officer. The shooting of the film will get completed by the end of this month.”

The role of Mallar is being played by actor Anindya Banerjee. The actor was busy getting his makeup done when he was questioned about his role in the film. “I am an alcoholic. My brother gets murdered. It is after the murder that my character undergoes a change and the audience will come to know about the other side of my character” said the actor.

In crisp white shirt, blue jeans, brown boots, aviator shades, Mumtaz Socar looked every bit the IPS officer that she is playing in this film. “I have been very lucky to have got such challenging roles so early in my career. My athletic personality has helped me immensely to mould in this role very well. I am excited that I will be doing some action sequences. Those will be shot in North Bengal” said the actress. Sharing screen space with experienced actors like Kharaj Mukherjee is what is giving the young actress goose bumps. “Though I play a serious role than Kharaj da, he will still play the role so well that I will have to try very hard to match up to his levels. I talk with him and he guides me often. I better act well or else I will make a fool of myself” added the actress smiling.

Kharaj Mukherjee, in between getting the hair styled with the Gatsby styling gel was also humming a folk song. Commenting on his character the actor said “I have done the role of police officer in numerous films now. The character of J. Mahato which I play has the problem of speaking English in a wrong way. This leads to comic situations in the otherwise serious film. My character brings in comic relief. I must give the director full credit for shooting the film so well. The film requires compactness in the direction and the director is doing just that”.
