Acharya (2011) Nepali Movie Poster

Kathmandu, September 30, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Bhakta Raj Acharya, a musical genius who has been given titles like Bhajan Samrat and Bhajan Siromoni by his huge fan-base, had a spectacular career in song-writing, composing and singing for sixteen years before fate struck him with cancer resulting in amputation of his tongue.

The challenge of making a biopic on the Nepali legend reflecting the great respect and love of music lovers was taken up by director Prashant Rasaily.

The film, simply titled "Acharya", stars his son Satya Raj Acharya in the title role along with Aruna Karki, Sunil Pokharel and others. Satya is an accomplished singer himself.

The film features an appearance by the great Ghazal wizard Ghulam Ali Khan himself.

Music of the film is, of course, by Bhakta Raj Acharya.

The producer of Acharya is Roshan Rai and released under the banner of Silk Route Pictures.
