Manish Malhotra to Design Costumes for Heroine

September 27, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Pen Men at Work) : ‘So what’s new? Manish Malhotra is the one who always designs cloths for Bollywood girls!’ you would say.

But, we are not talking about any Bollywood heroine here!

We are talking about ‘the heroine’ – Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ – UTV Motion Pictures and Madhur Bhandarkar’s precious, close-to-heart project!

The ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra has been roped in to design costumes for ‘Heroine’. Mind you, not just one or two, but a whole wardrobe of 130 costumes and that too, at the cost of (now take a deep breath here, please!) whopping Rs. 1.2 crores!

Madhur’s dream project ‘Heroine’ was in jeopardy when just a few weeks after signing for lead role and shooting for mere nine days, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan announced her pregnancy.

By then, ‘Heroine’ had become a mission for Madhur to shelve the project. Other divas of the tinsel town were eager to step in and Madhur and UTV zeroed in on the ‘size zero’ girl Kareena Kapoor.

Kareena plays a diva at the prime of her career in ‘Heroine.’ Madhur, the national award winning director, and UTV Motion Pictures want to take it to the heights of extravaganza.

Each scene that Kareena plays will have at least four costume changes!

So, the 130 costumes big wardrobe, especially designed for her by an icon of fashion design -Manish Malhotra, and the trials of the outfits overseen by Madhur himself! Apparently, he does not want to leave any stone unturned to make it exceptionally glamorous!

Manish Malhotra substantiates, “I have never made so many costumes for one actress in my entire career, till date.”

As the buzz goes, the production house had already spent some 5 lakh rupees for the former leading lady of the project, Aishwarya, during her short tenure on the project.
