Kolkata Durga Puja Awards: Banchbo Sharad Samman 2013; Tollywood Hero Rahul working for underprivilaged children
Kolkata, August 2nd (Washington Bangla Radio): India has huge number of poor children whose interests are rarely given priority. They always remain deprived from their rights. Their curse is that they belong to the poorest section of the society. ‘Banchbo’ is a Non Profit Non Governmental Organization who extended their hands for the well-being of these underprivileged children and is dedicated to their health care, education and over all development.Saturday, 27th July was a remarkable day as ‘Bachbo’ had organized a cultural evening at DR.TRIGUNA SEN AUDITORIUM (Jadavpur University Campus) with the underprivileged children from Sundarban (Patharpratima), children of ‘Sex Workers’ from Rahul Ashram, Baruipur, ‘Street Children’ of Kolkata and the underprivileged children from Belpahari, Paschim Midnapur. The occasion incorporated the Award Ceremony of ‘Banchbo Sharad Samman-2012’ (Unique Puja Rating by Underprivileged Children & Senior Citizens that is organized by BANCHBO every year) along with awarding Scholarships & Felicitations to meritorious students of Sundarban.who have passed Secondary & Higher Secondary exams this year.
Many dignitaries brightened up the show with their presence and the names included Mr.Gaurav Bansal, (US Consult Kolkata General of political and economic affair), Aditi Gupta ( renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer), Chairman of Bachbo- Mr. Sudipta Kumar Sen, Kaushik Maitra- the M.D of Shulekha groups and Deputy Commissioner of Police from Jadavpur Branch and the very versatile Tolly actor Rahul, who is also the ‘event ambassador’ of Banchbo. “Many people think that the celebrities charge a huge amount of money for visiting any event but Rahul is very close to us. He had donated a handsome amount of money to Bachbo and told me not to disclose it”, said Dr, Dhires Chowdhury, President of Bachbo.
Kolkata Tollywood actor Rahul Banerjee who has been associated with the organization for the past two years said, “All these underprivileged children will become highly successful adults some day. Therefore, do not loose your hope and have faith in yourself. All the best”, Rahul gave this message to the children through WBRi. He also appreciated their performance through his words. “They have come from such a depressing background and in spite of that their performance proved to be the real inspiration for us”.
The solo performance of one of the participants overwhelmed the audience. She presented her songs as a professional singer. Next, the little boys and girls of Sundarban came with the dance presentation and enlightened the stage. While they were dancing, one of them recited poem in between the dance. According to Dr. Chowdhury, these children do not even get adequate food regularly. However, their marvelous performance proved that they are fighting every minute of their life confidently. The President of Bachbo thanked Ratna who bought all those children to Kolkata though it was raining heavily in Sundarban and for grooming them for the performance. Ratna is a teenage girl, preparing for the HS Exams who helps her parents with agricultural work along with her studies..In addition to the children, Aditi Gupta presented ‘Rabindra Sangeet’. The children of sundarban acted in mimicry shows revealing two messages; one of ‘religion equality’ and the other rendered the message that ‘the children should not be pressurized to study hard and score highest marks’. They must get t time to play or relax.
The team of ‘Banchbo’ attempted to educate the audience by speaking about the dark side of ‘Child Labor’ and ‘Atrocities on Women’ that is prevailing in our society.‘Bachbo Sharad Samman- 2012’ awarded the best six Puja of 2012 of which the underprivileged children chose three Puja and the senior citizens of Bachbo decided the other three. ‘Alipore Sharbojonin’ and ‘Dumdum Park’ occupied the first position judged by the children and senior citizens of ‘Bachbo’ respectively.
‘Bachbo Sharad Samman’ is on its way to complete its 13 years. In 2008, they involved the senior citizens to their organization who have been neglected by their families.
The show ended with the awarding of scholarships and felicitation provided to the worthy students who secured excellent marks in Higher Secondary and Madhyamik Examination. Rupali Maity (91.42% in Madhyamik),Amit Kruma Patra (77.6% in Higher Secondary) and 10 more candidates were honored.
