Kolkata, August 2, 2012 (Washington Bangla radio / Penning Creations) Pandit Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao de Haas, the husband-wife duo, performed at the Indian Council For Cultural Relations (ICCR) on the 28th of July.
The program started from 7:30 pm, with the venue already being packed to the rafters with music-lovers. A total of four compositions were played out on the evening, each of them being rich in classical content, apart from being, of course easy and soothing on the ears. Pandit Shubhendra Rao quite magically captured the Indian feel of the occasion, with his mastery over his sitar. The artist easily lived up to his billing as a musical perfectionist, who strives to connect with the very souls and sensibilities of the audience. Those who were present there were enthralled by the spectacle. Those who were not, really missed out on something savory.
Music, as is well-known, knows no boundaries, and this point was precisely driven home during the function by Saskia Rao-de Haas, who created ripples with her artistry with the cello. The Netherlands-born celebrated music composer kept all guests spellbound – such was the grandeur of her performance.
The success of any musical performance depends critically on how well the musicians can blend together, and Live In Concert: East Marries West scored a perfect ten on that count. The fusion of Indian musical notes with Western tunes was seamless.
The Live In Concert program wrapped up around 9:00 pm. One and a half hours of musical magic had just flown by and the entire audience was left yearning for…that’s right…even more!
