Actress Shampa Ghosh passes away

Calcutta/New Delhi, 2nd August, 2011 (WBRi/OOBE): Actress Shampa Ghosh passed away recently. She was suffering from cancer. She had starred in Goutam Ghose's "Antarjali Jatra (The Voyage Beyond)" which had released in 1987. She had played the character of Yashobati. Later she turned into a producer and produced many programmes for television including Vijayendra Ghatke starrer Beeshbrikhsho for National Doordarshan. Her co-star of Antarjali Jatra, Shatrughan Sinha had helped her a lot during her last days. A passout of Patha Bhavan and Jadavpur Unversity, Shampa was a student of Comperative Literature.

Antarjali Jatra won the "National Film Award" for "Best Feature Film in Bengali" in 1988 and was also screened in the "Un Certain Regard" section of the "1988 Cannes Film Festival". The film also won the "Golden Semurg (best film) award" at "The Tashkent International Film Festival", 1988 and the "Best Bengali Film" at the "BFJA Award", 1989.
