NSCN (IM) cadre killed in gunbattle

Guwahati, Aug 26 (IBNS) : A cadre of northeast insurgent group Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak Muivah) or NSCN (IM), was killed and six others were arrested in a gunbattle with security forces in Assam-Nagaland border on Thursday, sources said.

The incident took place at Namsaibasti in Assam-Nagaland border area, when Assam Rifles launched an operation in the area based on a specific information.

At least 10 NSCN (IM) militants opened fire on the security personnel and bullets were exchanged for about half-an-hour.

A militant was killed on the spot and six others were arrested.

Three cadres managed to flee from the encounter site.

Security forces also busted a camp and seized huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

In a separate incident, two houses were set on fire by Arunachali miscreants at tense Charaipung area in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Thursday, officials said.
