Kolkata, Aug 18 (IBNS): Renowned dancer Mamata Shankar feels that her dance
is a protest against the evils in the society and can do something ‘great
‘for the people.
“My works are a protest against the culture we are seeing in the society,”
Shankar told IBNS.
“I feel we can do something great through our dance for the society,” she
added, at the closing day of 'Rabindra Utsav 2010', where she and her group
'Mamata Shankar Dance Company' performed world bard Rabindranath Tagore's
dance drama 'Kalmrigaya' on Wednesday evening.
“In this edition of ‘Kalmrigaya’ the emphasis is not so much on the
delineation of the storyline, but on the building of an atmosphere, a
certain sense of foreboding that prevails,” said Mamata.
“I feel that I have done nothing, Rabindranath Tagore did it, and the rest
has been done by God,” she said when asked on producing an
enriching performance on Wednesday evening.
The ‘Rabindra Utsav 2010’ is celebrated for the second time in Kolkata
and this year holds a special significance being the 150th birth anniversary
of Tagore.
The cultural journey had begun on August 10.
