Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 18 (IBNS): Former junior external affairs minister
Shashi Tharoor’s wedding with Sunanda Pushkar promises to be a total
traditional affair – a 200-year-old ancestral home as the venue, hand-woven
attires for the bride and groom and the guests treated to a stay in an
ayurveda palace.

As August 22 draws closer, Elavanchery, in Palakkad, in Kerela gears up to
host Tharoor’s wedding in a grand style.

The former minister’s 200-year-old ancestral home, Mundarath House, is
being spruced up to host the wedding.

Some 100 people are expected to attend the wedding and no senior political
leaders are likely to be present, with lack of proper accommodation being
cited as the reason.

Those in attendance would include Tharoor’s mother Lilly, his two sons as
well as his sisters.

A luxury ayurveda palace in Kollengode, Palakkad, Kalari Kovilakam, has
been booked for the bride’s party, who are scheduled to arrive a day before
the wedding.

Five luxurious suites have been booked for Sunanda and her guests, with the
stay being a complementary one for the bride’s party.

Sunanda’s son is also expected to be present at the wedding.

Traditional hand-woven attires are being brought for the bride and groom
from the famous village Balaramapuram, in Thiruvananthapuram.

While it will be ‘kasavu mundu’, ‘kurta’ and shawl for Tharoor, Sunanda
will be decked in a ‘kasavu mundu;.

The 54-year-old Tharoor will also tie the traditional Thali (sacred gold
chain and locket) around Sunanda's neck to solemnise the marriage.

As per the schedule, Tharoor and Sunanda will leave for Thiruvananthapuram
on the wedding day itself and host a grand reception at Subramaniam Hall
there the next day.

At least 1,000 people, including party workers and leaders, are expected to
attend the reception.

The couple will also host a feast for 70 odd orphans at the Shree Chitra
poor home, a home for the destitute run by the Kerala government, later the
same day.

They will fly to New Delhi the very next day and will host another
reception at Silver Oak, Indian Habitat Centre, in the national capital on
September three.

The couple had been dogged by controversies with Tharoor losing his
ministerial berth following an uproar over free equity to Sunanda in an
Indian Premier League team.
