Popularly known as Hrishi-da, Hrishikesh Mukherjee is one of the greatest film makers that Indian Cinema has seen. He is known as the pioneer of the 'middle cinema' of India. Most of his films painted a story that reflected the changing middle class ethos exposed to the burgeoning foreign influence on the society. Mukherjee very well carved a middle path between the extravagance of mainstream cinema and the realism of art cinema. Probably this is the reason why still today his style of film making is appreciated among all.

Anand features ‘Babu Moshay’ (Amitabh Bachchan) and ‘Kaka’ (Rajesh Khanna) of bollywood together. The film moves around Anand (Rajesh Khanna), a cancer patient who teaches Dr. Bhaskar (Amitabh Bachchan) the way to live life merrily amid of several miseries.

The story of the movie is very sensitive with some of poignant songs like ‘Kahin door jab din Dhaal Jaay…’ and’ zindagi kaisi hai paheli…’
Chupke Chupke has riveting comedy circle, excellent star cast and romantic songs like ‘Abke Sajan Sawan Mein…’ and ‘chupke chupke chal ri purwaiya….’ which makes it a complete entertainment package. The film features Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore a Jaya Bhaduri and veteran Om Prakash. The music of the film is given by S. D. Burman. Rajesh Khanna in Bawarchi and Amol Palekar in Golmaal are sure to tickle all your laughter bones with their outstanding performances. Both the films, though comedies, give very strong messages in typical Hrishi-da style. The witty ways of each character in the film, the relations they shared, their typical mentalities and their emotions makes Bawarchi all time favourite of any movie buff. Film Golmaal won several filmfare awards including the best actor award for Amol Palekar. The film is still considered to be one of the best comedy films made in Indian Cinema till date. Not only Panchamda’s composition ‘Aanewala Pal Jaanewala Hai…’ is still fresh in our minds, but also the comic capers of Dinal Pathak and Utpal Dutt still make us laugh.
