Nutan is one of the most acclaimed actress of Bollywood. Her splendid expressions and elegant style of
performance won her the highest number of filmfare awards as an actress. She has five filmfare awards
to her name. The Diva travelled the journey of Black and white days to the colourful frames and proved
her talent to the industry. Her perfect balance of beauty, grace and flawless performances got her a
variety of roles as an actress. Though the mesmerizing beauty is no more present among us but she still

Anari, directed by one of the finest film makers of Indian Cinema, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, features Nutan
and Raj Kapoor. The music of the film was given by Shankar Jaikishan. The story of the film revolves
around a poor and honest chap (Raj Kapoor) and his love (Nutan). Though the film starts on a lighter
note but latter walks up on the hills of heavy emotions and drama. The simplicity of the characters, their
chemistry along with good music adds to the magic of film. Romantic songs like ‘Dil Ki Nazar Se..’, ‘Kisi Ki
Muskarahoton..’, ‘Woh Chand Khila..’, ‘Tera Jaana..’ make one fall in love with the film. Anari bagged five
filmfare award to its name.
Sujata, a classic film directed by the legendary director Bimal Roy, is based on the social issue of
untouchability in India. The film won four filmfare awards including that for the best actress. The film
features Nutan against Sunil Dutt. The most beautiful part of the film remains in the fact that the message
of the film is very well amalgamated in the story without giving its audience an overdose of Indian History
(untouchability in India) Nutan too, well balances the character without over expressing the miseries of
Sujata’s life.
Bandini, yet another film by Director Bimal Roy, has Nutan in one of her best performances. The story of
the film is based on the book of Jarasandha, a former jail superintendent. The film won six Filmfare
awards that year. The music of the film is given by the unforgettable Music Genius S. D. Burman. Songs
like ‘Mora Gora ang lai le..’ ‘O re Maanjhi.’ and ‘jogi jab se tu aaya..’ are some of the evergreen songs that
find place in our music collection till date.
Saraswatichandra, is based on a Gujarati Novel Saraswatichandra. In the film directed by Govind
Saraiya, Nutan is paired with a relatively lesser known actor Manish. The film portrays the scene of Old
India when the meltdown to our old customs and traditions had just started. The film won the National
Film Awards in the Best Cinematography and Best Music Director categories. Saraswastichandra is a
beautiful film with excellent performances from its actors.
