Interview | Sukanta Roy - Director of Nayika, Painter Rabindranath, Chelebela | Bengali Movies

SUKANTA  ROY is a well-known film-maker from Kolkata, and his full-length Bengali feature film "NAYIKA" is releasing in Cinemas across India soon.

Sukanto has made a few extraordinary films before. He made two commercial Bengali films with top stars before his great docu-feature PAINTER RABINDRANATH (Film Maker Director Sukanto Roy Painter Rabindranath DVD OnlineBuy DVD in North America - USA, Canada here) - a film on Tagore's paintings with interludes of songs performed by Indrani Sen, Apratim Sen & Shrabani Sen, and the film CHELEBELA about the younger days of Tagore, starring Mousumi Chatterjee, Ranjit Mullick, Debashree Roy, Jishu Sengupta and others with Narration by Soumitra Chatterjee.

Sukanto describes how he received great inspiration and support from everyone concerned, including renowned film-makers Buddhadev Dasgupta and Goutam Ghose, and Pradip Kundalia who was instrumental in making the film.

In this informal, comprehensive and intimate interview, Sukanto Roy talks to Arijit Chakraborty of Washington Bangla Radio about his fascination for films from early days, his previous films, his wonderful and internationally acclaimed docu-feature Painter Rabindranath, his portrayal of Rabindranather chelebela in CHELEBELA and his forthcoming film NAYIKA.
