June Maliah hosts launch of Aarohan in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 16, 2012 (Washington Bangla radio / Penning Creations) The employees of Hindustan Unilever Brooke House Recreation Club took an initiative to look beyond everyday life to build a better society. They organized an event, Aarohan which took place in Kala Mandir on the 13th of July. This event was meant to bring to the fore underprivileged children, people from old age home, children who are suffering from severe illness as well as physically challenged individuals and give them an opportunity to showcase their talents and fun at the same time.

While many celebrities and well known public figures were present at the event the star of the evening was the very beautiful June Maliah who was hosting the show. General Manager of Hindustan Unilever Brooke House Recreation Club, Kedar LeLe, Urmi Basu who is the founder of the NGO New Light and Additional Commissioner of Police, Debashish Roy also took an active part in this event.

The aim of Aarohan is to make the citizens of Kolkata aware of their social responsibility. For the first time any corporate house took an initiative to organize an event of this kind with twenty five NGO’s and six hundred beneficiaries. The whole team of Hindustan Unilever Brooke House Recreation Club gave a warm welcome to the aged, neglected, unwell as well as underprivileged people.

Numerous old age homes like Santashram, Retreat and Apon Ghar and a large number of NGO’s like St. Jude Child Care Centre and New light situated in Kolkata were highlighted in this event.

Wonderful performances by the children of the employees of the corporate house and underprivileged children from different charitable organizations added more delight to Aarohan. Children from the NGO, New Light which was founded by Urmi Basu also took an active part in this event.

The host of Aarohan, June Maliah is a member of West Bengal Women’s Commission. At the same time she supports all kinds of development and improvement which are required for all sections of society to prosper and to lead a better life. Additional Commissioner of Police, Debashish Roy made the attendees aware of the latest protection and security measures for the underprivileged children as well as the old age people which are being provided by Kolkata Police.

The event was overall a complete heartwarming affair and it sure fulfilled the aim of bringing smiles to the faces of the underprivileged ones who attended the function as guests or participants. We look forward to more such initiatives.
