The Bengali film's story / plot outline is of a classic family drama where Jyotirmoy defies his Jamindar grandfather and marries his romantic interest Anubha, and as a result, is cut off from his inheritance, especially because his grandfather had promised the father of another girl Sita (played by Sandhyarani) that Sita would be Jyotirmoy's bride.
Other disasters also happen in parallel, including a grand-daughter of the Jamindar marrying a alcoholic. Intra-family politics and jealosy, chaos and illness ripple through the family and Jyotirmoy's mother and later the Jamindar pass away, but not before the estate is willed to Sita. Sita get's control of the estate, which she later graciously offers to pass on to Jyotirmoy. But Jyotirmoy is not interested.
