Subhomoy Mukherjee reports from Kolkata:
For being successful as an actor, you don’t have to be a body builder or a street smart person but you should have the knowledge and power to command the role given to you.
That’s why actors like Kharaj Mukherjee are always successful.
From his teenage, Kharaj has started professional acting under guidance of none other than Rama Prasad Banik at his theatre group. He was good in studies so got the opportunity to study in St. Xavier’s College. When he was there, once he sang Rabindrasangeet at a condolence. Some professor, who is a film director too, liked him and given him chance at the film “Hulusthul”.
Though he started his film career with “Hulusthul” in 1980s, he was already popular then as a theater person.
After college he joined Indian Railways. But it was becoming difficult for him day by day to balance between acting career and Railways career.
That time Indian Television has started to show more than one channel from early 1990s and soaps were being popularized from then.
In those days, everybody knew Kharaj as a versatile and genius artist for character roles and he was getting major roles in soaps as well.
Since his acting journey with film, soaps and theater was demanding more time, he decided to resign from Railways that time.
In the new century, Kharaj is getting popularity for his other talent, singing and he is gaining popularity from all segments of the society as a singer. He usually writes the lyrics and composes the music for his songs.
He has got many awards for acting as well as singing and nobody in the industry can think about a project without Kharaj as an actor or singer.
At the science fiction Patalghar, which is very popular among kids, Kharaj as the major character, has acted and sang very successfully.
His latest venture, Dev-Payel starrer “Le Chakka” produced by Srijan Arts and directed by Raj Chakraborty, is on screen right now.
He is currently working to animate the popular Mahalaya morning programme on AIR, Mahisasuramardini, with singing of same songs by present day eminent artists like Srikanta Acharya, Manomoy Bhattacharya, Indrani Sen, Lopamudra Mitro, Subhomita etc.
We wish him all the success to continue his journey as a actor, director, singer, lyricist and composer.
