Washington DC, June 4 2010: Acclaimed Hollywood producer-director and founder of the Star Wars phenomenon George Lucas said about the legendary Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray, "Satyajit Ray is an extraordinary filmmaker with a long and illustrious career who has had a profound influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in its 1992 Citation for Lifetime Achievement Oscar for Satyajit Ray, "In recognition of his rare mastery of the art of motion pictures, and of his profound humanitarian outlook, which has had an indelible influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world."
