Washington DC, June 4 2010: Acclaimed Hollywood producer-director and founder of the Star Wars phenomenon George Lucas said about the legendary Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray, "Satyajit Ray is an extraordinary filmmaker with a long and illustrious career who has had a profound influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in its 1992 Citation for Lifetime Achievement Oscar for Satyajit Ray, "In recognition of his rare mastery of the art of motion pictures, and of his profound humanitarian outlook, which has had an indelible influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world."

Amartya Sen, Nobel Laureate Economics, has said, "The work of Satyajit Ray presents a remarkably insightful understanding of the relations between cultures, and his ideas remain pertinent to the great cultural debates in the contemporary world, not least in India." in an article titled Satyajit Ray and the art of Universalism published in The New Republic, April 1, 1996.

The APU Trilogy - a set of 3 Bengali films on 3  DVDs with English subtitles - Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), Aparajito (The Unvanquished), Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) - are among the greatest creations by Satyajit Ray and have the distinction of appearing in Time Magazine's all-time best 100 films.
