Bengal Youth Awards 2013 held in Kolkata


Kolkata, June 28, (Washington Bangla radio): Recently a huge gathering of people were noticed standing in front of The G.D. Birla Sabhaghar waiting for the gates to open to let the crowd pour into the auditorium. The reason for such a huge footfall was the Bengal Youth Awards 2013. The award was started in the year 2010 and this is the fourth year of the award ceremony. The Bengal Youth Awards is one of the most recognized award functions in the city of Kolkata.

Speaking on the occasion, the founder, Mr. Sunil Banerjee said “The awards are in the fourth year and it feels great that we could organize the program at G.D.Birla Sabhaghar. In the previous year the award ceremony took place at Science City auditorium. We plan to organize this award ceremony on a bigger level in the coming year”.


The event started with Ganesh Bandana by Himadri. The soulful singing of the Ganesh Bandana was a good way to begin this award function. Eminent actor and politician, Tapas Paul who was also the chief guest at the award function felicitated veteran director Tarun Majumdar with a Lifetime Achievement Award. “It is a great honor for me to be part of this award ceremony. Awards are special for any artist. This is a recognition that they get. This helps them immensely to carry on with their hard work. I wish all the artists getting awards today my heartiest wishes” said Tapas Paul.

After the initial set of awards, singer Himadri again took the stage and sang songs like “Bheegi Bheegi si hai Raaten” to “Jeene k hain chaar din” and kept the audience mesmerized. Raj Bhattacharya for his performance in the Star Jalsa Serial Aanchal got the award for the Rising talent of Bengal (TV). “This is my first award and I am very happy. I hope to entertain my audience even better in the days to come. My film “Prarthana” will release during Eid and I hope people will like me in the film” said Raj.


Rachana Banerjee got the award for the Star Anchor for hosting the show Didi No.1 on Zee Bangla. Dressed in an electric blue sari, the actress looked equally pretty off-screen. “I got an award in 2010 for acting in the maximum number of languages. And getting this award for anchoring is also special for me. The video clips shown of the different films that I have worked in so far gives a nostalgic feeling” said the actress.

After this set of awards, Aparajita Barman took the stage and kept the audience glued to their seats with songs like “Aap ki nazro ne samjha”, “Piya tose naiya lage re” and “Mere hathon mein nau nau churiyan”.

Bhaswar Chatterjee received the best supporting actor award for his performance in ‘Jekane Bhooter Bhoi’. The actor expressed his gratitude on getting the award for this film. He also felt special as he received the award in front of so many esteemed people.

Mousumi’s Payal Dance troupe next performed to a medley of songs. The dance performance was titled “Sajna Hain mujhe”. The performance has been so named because the songs selected focuses on the things women use to deck themselves up with like flowers, kajal and so on.


Samrat Mukherjee and Rupanjana Mitra got the best actor and actress award respectively in the television category. Abir Chatterjee and Shubhosree received the best actor and actress award respectively for their performance in Bojhena se Bojhena and Megh Roddur. Srijit Mukherjee bagged the best director award for Hemlock Society while Anupam Roy took home the award for his song in the same film.

Raj Bhattacharya’s performance with the song “Main hoon don” was a mind blowing. His attitude and dance surely kept the audience glued to their seats.


The Global icon of music award was presented to Usha Uthup while Sayantika Banerjee got the award for the popular choice for her performance in Awara.

The Bengal Youth Awards was a glamorous event and we hope it will continue to encourage artists by recognizing their talents in future. This program will be aired on Ujan Bangla channel on the 30th of June.
