Vinoo Hinduja, Co-Chairperson – Healthcare, Hinduja Group proudly felicitated Dr. Lala at a ceremony held today at the Hospital. The programme was attended by senior management of Hinduja Group and fellow Doctors.

After years of dreaming about it and 7 weeks of climbing and fighting all challenges, Dr.Lala touched the summit successfully. He thus has become an example for many who have managed to keep a balanced professional life while keeping creative spirits alive.

Mount Everest - soaring in height to 29,035 feet (8,850 m), the famous mountain lays in the Himalayas, along the border of Nepal, Tibet and China. The Himalayas, with their mystical enchantment, have inspired the saints, yogis and the adventurers alike.

Dr. Lala set out for the epic journey of conquering the Everest from Mumbai on March 28 and reached Kathmandu by air the same day. After completing the formalities set by the Nepal government, he set out with his team on April 1 to Lukla and from there walked approx. 63 kms (17,500ft or 5,400m above sea level) and reached Base camp on April 8. From Camp 1 to Camp 2 (20,000ft or 6,100m) was a short journey of 3 to 5 hours. From Camp 2 to 3 (24,000ft or 7,400m) and to camp 4 (26,000ft or 8,000m) was a journey of approximately 16 hours in total. The whole process of climbing Everest takes time because mountaineers’ believe in the mantra of “scaling high and resting low”, which means even though one reaches Camp 1; climbers have to come back the same evening to Base Camp and rest. This is done so that one’s body gets acclimatized to high altitudes and this was followed throughout the journey.

Dr. Murad Lala, Consultant Oncosurgeon, Hinduja Hospitalsaid, “Since childhood I always I had this dream of climbing the Mt. Everest. Hinduja Hospital management has been kind enough to allow me to take time off and realize my dream. Hinduja hospital’s support manifests the aspirations of the institute, which is to stay at the pinnacle of Healthcare and also stretching the limits for quality.” Trekking the Everest is a no mean task. To realize his dreams he had to sacrifice a lot and simultaneously put in a lot of effort to climb the toughest terrain. He did his training by doing the “TRIPLE CROWN EXPEDITION” - "THREE PEAKS"; Lobuche East -6119m, Pokalde 5806m & Island Peak 6145m.

Talking about his journey, Dr. Lala said, “We were a group of 8 (excluding the personal sherpas and our western guide - Marty Schmidt) and our group motto was ‘One Team, One Dream’. The 12 hour journey was the ‘walk of a lifetime for me’. When I finally summited, it was a feeling of mixed emotion. Just because we are ordinary people does not mean we cannot have extraordinary dreams.”

Congratulating Dr. Murad Lala for his accomplishment, Dr. Gustad Daver, Director-Professional Services said, “The hospital has been a beacon of healthcare and Dr. Lala, apart from being an excellent cancer surgeon with Hinduja Hospital since 2001, has been an epitome of courage and determination by achieving this act. As a fellow consultant, I feel proud that he has managed to excel in his professional life and in the same time achieved his personal dream to become the first doctor from India to have scaled the Everest.”
