ULLASH (2012) Bangla Movie Preview from Nandan Cinema Kolkata: Three Stories from Three Decades to be Connected by TV Journalist

Actors Sadhna Hazra & Amit Das in Ullas (Bengali, 2012) FilmKolkata, June 28, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio / Penning Creations) On Monday the 25th of June, the unit of Ishwar Chakraborty’s film Ullas met the press at Nandan. The film covers three different stories from three decades brought together by a commentator in the form of a TV reporter, whose point of view connects the series of experiences. Newcomers Sadhna Hazra and Amit Das (picture at right) were also present at the event.

The first story located in Orissa, 2000, is about a tribal youth, Kanna, who dies while giving a physical test for the post of a police constable and suddenly comes alive on his journey to the morgue and starts running again until he reaches an ancient mahua tree. The second story is situated in Maharashtra in the 1990s, focuses on Mahadu, a dying Korku, who grows unnaturally in his size, hunger and energy and destroys all the buildings around Mumbai that were built on the forest land, until he reaches the teak forests in the area, which is his original native place. The third story reflects the story of a girl from Lodha community, she being pregnant by a wood merchant’s son and her revenge, in West Bengal in the 1980s.

The director, mainly a documentary film maker, when asked about the film says that through it he wants to give the audience the message – “Jongol Raha Dorkar”.

The film’s cast includes Mahasweta Debi, Biplob Chatterjee, Sankar Chakraborty, Amit Das and Sadhana Hazra, who were all present in the press meet. The film also has Soumitra Chatterjee, Tapas Paul and Satabdi Roy who were unable to come to the event. It is produced by Sankar Sarkar under the banner of RNR Enterprise.

Amit, a debutant, mentioned that it was a very challenging role but he has managed to pull it off with the help of the big stars present there. Sadhana, another newcomer, gives all her credits to the director for her performance in the film.

Actor Biplab Chatterjee, while providing details about the film, mentioned that he is playing a positive character in the film. He also mentioned that the characters are realistic and will connect with the audience. The producer said that the film is not a commercial one and portrays the true story about the tribal people. A small clipping of the film was shown to the press, and the response was quite good. The theme of the film is liked by all and the film maker and his team are confident about the success of the film and expect good response from the audience.
