Piranha 3DD (2012) WBRi Movie Review: 3 double D effect lives up to hype in gory horrorfest with hideous fish

Piranha 3DD (2012) Hollywood Movie PosterKolkata, India, June 16, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio / Penning Creations) The sequel to Piranha 3D (2010), Piranha 3DD hits the theaters this summer and the franchise has definitely bounced back. It is a horror comedy flick that is directed by John Gulager, who has previously directed the horror series, ‘Feast’. The movie stars Danielle Panabaker, the hot favorite of the youngsters, as ‘Maddy’, Matt Bush as ‘Barry and Chris Zylka as ‘Kyle’.

‘Maddy’, a student of marine biology, returns home for the summer to her home town, where she owns a water park and finds to her dismay that her sinister step father Chet (David Koechner) has transformed the beautiful water park into a sleazy one after the death of her mother. The new park is christened by the name ‘Big Wet’ and it is an adult theme park with certified water strippers and plump lifeguards. He has also launched an adult only pool section where he has fixed a hidden camera to record lecherous actions.

‘Chet’ is even pumping water from the wretched ‘Lake Victoria’ which had been attacked by the archaic and darned piranhas in the previous movie. Therefore it is not long before those dangerous species enter and inflict mayhem in ‘Big Wet’ too.

After the re-emergence of the life threatening voraciously carnivorous fish, ‘Maddy’ goes in search for a scientist named ‘Carl Goodman’, with two of his acquaintances (‘Kyle’ and ‘Barry’). The role of the eminent scientist is played by Christopher Lloyd. He suggests to ‘Maddy’ that the Piranhas might have migrated from the depths of the lake. With this clue, Maddy sets off to explore the actual reason behind the recurrence of the Piranhas. She ultimately finds out that ‘Chet’ has been pumping out water from the ill-fated lake to avoid taxes, without the knowledge that he was actually inviting hoards of the deadly species along with the water. It is now too late to stop them and viewers need to watch the movie to know what happens next.

Trailer: Piranha 3DD (2012)

As far as the acting of the leading actors is concerned, one must say it was extremely mechanical. The movie is a recreation of the same elements that were shown in Piranha 3D, just set in a different background. As far as the 3 double “D” effect of the film is concerned, it has mostly lived up to expectations. As seen in the trailers the movie is all about plump topless women splattering in the water, until the tiny yet ferocious fish start eating up each and every part of their bodies. The hideous CGI fish will haunt you throughout the movie.

There are some really gory and gross scenes in the movie. The award for the most gruesome scene goes to a Piranha attacking a girl’s private parts. The movie is aimed for those who enjoy gory horror movies with its never ending coarseness. The script of the movie is totally irrational and very irrelevant. The cheesy scenes, characters and plot are truly below the standard and might appeal to only a small group of the audience. The movie has truly taken resort to despicable means to appeal to the audience!
