Kolkata, June 12, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio) In an age when everyone tries to follow the footsteps of others, it is a delight to witness someone breaking the norm. On the evening of the 12th, Kolkata witnessed one such instance when the 23 Pally Durga Mandir near Hazra was the stage for a one-of-its-kind press conference accompanied by the resonating sound of the Dhak, the traditional instrument synonymous with Durga Puja. The temple was decked up in red and white pieces of cloth, as if the Autumn has entered Kolkata before its time.

The famous South Kolkata temple was abuzz with the presence of the stars of forthcoming Bangla movie “Dashami” - Indraneil Sengupta, Koel Mullick, Locket Chatterjee and Pijush Ganguly who gathered there along with the debutant director Suman Maitra to talk about this much awaited movie of this year that strives to capture the essence of a typical North Kolkata Durga Puja immaculately.

Doshhomi is probably the first movie that features every nuance of this famous festival of Bengal. Even the stars of the film, from Indraneil Sengupta to Koel Mullick, Locket Chatterjee and Pijush Ganguly, came out wearing traditional Bengali attires that symbolize the spirit of Durga Puja and gave a sneak-peek of the feature film.

For Indraneil Sengupta, participating in this film was a completely different experience altogether. “I play Avi who has been born and brought up in north Kolkata and is in love with Tuli (Koel’s character). For the first time I have been cast in an out-andn-out commercial movie where I get to dance and behave like a local North Kolkata boy. I hope the audience like my character as well as the film”, said Indraneil who will be sharing screen space with Koel for the first time.

“I play Tuli who returns to her home in north Kolkata from the USA during Durga Puja and how the equation between Avi and Tuli changes in those five days of the festivity is what the picture is all about. Almost every Bengali has a story of his or her own centering on the Puja and that is where this movie clicks”, replied Koyel Mallick on being asked about her character and the story of the film.

Pijush Ganguli recently played Prof. Adinath Shome in the recent superhit Byomkesh Bakshi series film "Abar Bomkesh" by Anjan Dutta.

Director Suman Maitra, who has earlier assisted film makers like Vishal Bardwaj in Makdee and Maqbool, seemed a bit nervous and energized at the same time. “At the outset I am grateful to Cinenine for giving me an opportunity to direct “Doshhomi”. I have tried to tell the story in a different manner so that it does not seem familiar, plus I have two of the most sought-after actors of this generation - Indraneil and Koel - as its leads, whose camaraderie is to watch out for” said Suman Maitra, who sounded eager to get the viewers’ reactions.

“Cinema is not an art which films life; cinema is something between art and life. Unlike painting and literature, cinema both gives to life and takes from it, and I try to render this concept in my films. Doshhomi has been created with a lot of labor and love and am sure the audience will appreciate the movie”, said Captain Virendra Marya, the producer of the film who is also the CEO of Cinenine.

The music director of Doshhomi is Debarpito.

Mr. Namit Bajoria, Director, Bajoria Group of Companies appeared very confident at the event which was evident from his words too. “We have made this film with a lot of effort keeping in mind the rich culture of this state. Both Indraneil and Koel have amazing screen presence and have given striking performances in their first screen outing as a lead pair”, he said.
