Band Baja and Sort of Baraat for Jeet’s ‘Shotru’!

Band Baja and Sort of Baraat for Jeet’s ‘Shotru’!

June 14, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Pen Men at Work): Now that the World Cup and IPL Series have finally concluded, ‘movie-star mania’ has returned with band, baja and sort of baraat - literally! Bollywood is sizzling with it – with all the new big banner releases, and Tollywood is not far behind!

It was very evident when ‘Shotru’ – the Bengali version of the Tamil blockbuster ‘Singham’ – staring Jeet, Nusrat Jahan, and Suprio Dutta was released in Kolkata last week.

Jeet’s fan clubs and associations have mushroomed. They have gripped the veins of Kolkata. Massive posters of the star with thick garlands around the neck are everywhere.

At one place the whole theater was booked by one of Jeet’s fan clubs – the Jeet Fan Club of Kalighat. As the report goes, the members had arranged for a band on the first-day-first-show, at the theater screening the movie. Everybody was wearing a red-and-white tee-shirt with the words ‘Jeet Fan Club’ written on the back! The crowed kept dancing and chanting their beloved star’s name along with the band for hours before the movie started. Glitter showered everywhere, inside and outside the auditorium, and on the screen!

To his credit, Jeet has delivered what his huge fan following expected from him in the flick. As an honest, solemn, brave and poised police officer Dibakar, with ironclad determination, he eliminates his ‘shotru’ – the criminals. As Dibakar, Jeet has overshadowed all the other characters in the movie, including veteran players Dipankar Dey and Rabi Ranjan Maitra!

Incidentally, after Bengali version, the original Tamil hit ‘Singham’ will have its Hindi avatar, with Ajay Devgan portraying the police officer!

Bravo Jeet!

We do see box office flooding!
