Calcutta, June 1, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Acclaimed Kolkata-based film-maker Arin Paul (interview) has completed shooting of his latest documentary film on the life of India's National Award-winning veteran director Nripen Ganguly.
Ganguly, now 84, won a National Award for his landmark 1984 children's drama Bengali film "Bhombol Sardar".
Among many Indian and international accolades showered on the film, it was screened at the Kinderfilmfest / 14plus section at the 1985 Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin (Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival).
"Bhombol Sardar" has a star-cast of Nilanjan Bhattacharya, Haradhan Bannerjee, Kamu Mukherjee, Ashok Mitra, Purnima Debi, Rahul
Ray and others and features music by Anupam Mukherjee.
Ganguly is still making films, focusing on documentaries. He has seen the Bengali Film Industry from the beginning till date. He was very close to Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen & Soumitra Chatterjee.
Arin says about his opportunity of shooting a film on Ganguly, "I'm so lucky that he agreed. A fascinating tale."
