Rishi Kapoor to Raj Kiran: We Care For You!

June 1, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Pen Men at Work): The dazzling smile of Raj Kiran, a star of yester years, had been missing from entertainment arena of Bollywood for almost a decade! A famous star of ‘70s and ‘80s, well known for his role in Karz with Rishi Kapoor, had disappeared in thin air! Nobody had seen or heard from him for years and many of Raj Kiran’s friends had accepted the rumors making rounds about his death as the truth!

But, some of Raj’s friends were not ready to give up! They were adamant to find their missing friend!

Dipti Naval, a friend and colleague, last month sought help from Face Book by pleading to millions of FB visitors around the world: “Looking for a friend from the film world – his name is Raj Kiran. We have no news from him – last heard he was driving a cab in NY city. If anyone has any clue, please help…”

Rishi Kapoor finally got a lucky break to this frantic search during his recent trip to the US.

Rishi contacted Raj Kiran’s elder brother Govind Mehtani, who he happened to know lived in US – and a heart-breaking story was uncovered!

It seems, after going through a series of domestic crisis, Raj Kiran slipped into deep depression. His own abandoned him. First his wife left him with their son, then the rest of the family, including his elder brother Govind and younger brother Ajit, leaving him alone in the hands of dark nemesis.

After being institutionalized in India, it appears, Raj Kiran went to the U. S. to get further help for his psychological problems. As Rishi Kapoor learned from Raj’s brother Govind Mehtani, Raj had confined himself to an institution in Atlanta.

Even after reaching so close, Rishi could not complete his quest! Raj’s brother did not have his contact number!

Disheartened, sure, but not defeated, Rishi is all the more determined to meet Raj Kiran and convince him to come back home, since, as Rishi says: “We care for you!”
