SONAR TORI album release | Rabindra Sangeet feat. Indian and Bangladeshi singers

For the first time in the history of Rabindrasangeet artistes from both India and Bangladesh have jointly collaborated to bring out a CD to pay attribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary called ‘Sonar Tori’.This audio feature is based on letters, poems and songs that Rabindranath wrote during his several stays around the river Panda, in Shelidaha, Shahajadpur, Kushtia and Patisar.

The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh released the album on 15.5.10 along with Bharati Roy, Vice-President of ICCR and ex MP Krishna Bose.

The album has been conceived and directed by Debashish Raychaudhuri after his extensive tour to places like Shelidaha, Shahajadpur and Kushtia in Bangladesh where Tagore lived.

The narration has been done by Chaitali Dasgupta and she has also written the script as well.

This is the third international audio project on Rabindranath by Debasish Raychaudhuri, the first two being ‘The Dust and the Sunlight’ (based on Gitanjali) with poet and translator William Radice and ‘Scottish Ballads and Irish Melodies and Transcreations
by Rabindranath Tagore.

Debashish and his daughter Rohini are the only father-daughter duo in the world of Rabindrasangeet.(their website is www.debashishandrohini.com).

Debashish and Rohini have song for this album and Chaitali Dasgupta has written the script and done the recitation whereas the artistes from Bangladesh are Rezwana Choudhuri Bannya and Md Anisur Rahaman who have sung the songs and Asaduzzaman Noor who has read from Tagore’s letters.
