Bengali Movie THE MOVE - A film by Sounak Mukhopadhyay
May 11, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) Sounak Mukhopadhyay is a young film-maker from Calcutta. Sounak made his first short-film THE MOVE (Bengali, with English subtitles) using a camcorder and his imagination. THE MOVE - a zero-budget film - is completely made by Sounak himself, including story, script, direction and post-production, using the tools of inherent intelligence, the will to experiment, to try things and make errors and learn from mistakes and improve. THE MOVE is produced by Bonsai Filmz.
Joy breaks down in front of his father and almost decides to withdraw himself from the election. However, his father says that one must have guts to achieve the desirable in life so he must continue. Dhritiman approaches Joy’s father to warn him about the same but faces banter and is laughed at.
The protagonist (Joy) is played by Joy (Soumen Maity) who is presently working as a Block Development Officer for the Government of West Bengal. For both Joy and Dhritiman, it was their debut. This was also the first time for Ajit Mukhopadhyay to work in a movie though he's been a theatre actor for the last 40 years.
Joy finds his father dead, turns out to be a sure winner in the election and Dhritiman’s career comes to a hault as he’s captured by the police on the murder charge.
Is it really what it seems? Or is there more to what meets the eyes? The end of the film reveals a shocking truth to rethink the options.
Sounak Mukhopadhyay's real-life father Ajit Mukhopadhyay plays the role of Joy's father in THE MOVE. Dhritiman is played by Dhritiman Pal.
