Upcoming Bengali film Commonism to raise voice for gender equality

Kolkata, May 20, 2014,(Washington Bangla Radio): “Commonism” is a movie which talks about one of the most critical topics that are being dealt with by our society and currently the Supreme court has passed quite a lot of judgments regarding the same to inform the society that we are all humans at the first place and gender is just a decision taken by Nature. The revolutionary story revolves round the Chitrangada, Stella, Soso and Panchali who forms the central characters of the movie.

“Commonism” stars Sankalita Roy, Alivia Sarkar, Rajaditya Bandopadhyay among noted artist as the lead characters.

The Story and script has been written by Amitava B Bhattacharya who needs no introduction in the world of theatre and Documentary films. About the locations of the film Amitava said, “The film is set in Kolkata and Outstation, to get the exact feel of the backdrop”. Commonism is all about equality rights of all genders, irrespective of male, female or transgender .

The film portrays Sankalita Roy as Chitrangada, and Rajaditya Bandopadhyay, brother of Director Bappaditya Bandopadhyay (who acts in Finnish movies and runs his street theatre with Africans) as Soso a renowned painter.

Amitava B Bhattacharya weaves a script that talks deeply about commonism, the equality of all genders because what one believes in mind is his actual state of existence. According to the makers the dialogues are bold and immaculate, and each frame has been designed to be a part of revolution. This has prompted the director to look at the options of two releases of the movie, one for the festival and another for the theatrical circuit.

“Getting Rajaditya Bandopadhyay was one of the most difficult tasks while casting for “Commonism”. We always wanted a face which should have a perfect balance between authority and sensitivity. He will be joining the team of Commonism within two weeks coming down from Finland.” said the director

Chirantan Banerjee of SAREGAMAPA fame (finalist in 2008) has composed some brilliant tracks for the movie and “surely it will be the most popular song crafted this year” bets the directorial team and production house. A very bold song filled with intense reality put forward in a flamboyant manner.

“Commonism” is produced under the banner of “Pratham Entertainment India Pvt Ltd”, under the mentorship of producer Mr.Partha Basu Roy Chowdhury.
