Kobi Pronam-A tribute to great poet Rabindranath Thakur

Rabindra Sangeet by Somali Panda

h43rq

Somali Panda has been attached to the field of numerous cultural activities since early childhood days, because both her parents were very active in cultural and literary sphere. Her mind has primarily been groomed by her parents, who made her learn music at the tender age of three. A Sangeet Visharad in Hindustani Classical Music (from Vatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow), Somali Panda is known to consider Music as a synonym of Life. She has taken lessons in Rabindrasangeet from the late maestros Subinoy Roy and Arabindo Biswas. After having given several spellbinding performances on AIR and TV channels, after having composed music for theatre and documentary films, and after having done playback singing, Somali eventually found her musical counterpart in the subject of Tagore Music in the perspective of World Mystic Music, on which she has been tirelessly working for more than five years now. Her solo full-length performances given at various highly respected institutions verify her credibility and authority on the subject. Of the various esteemed audiences that she is proud to have been granted for her solo full-length performances, some are: Indian Habitat Centre (New Delhi), Union Public Library (Ranchi ), ICCR ( Kolkata), Gorky Sadan (Kolkata), Sisir Mancha (Kolkata), Shantiniketan- Basanta Utsav, Ruppur Shaid Mela, Shantiniketan, etc. A brief, yet complete, profile description of Somali Panda’s music also warrants a mention of the many authentic Lecture-demonstrations she has delivered on the above subject. Some of these were delivered at: UGC seminar on Rumi And Rabindranath Tagore, Significance of Women in Contemporary Iran and India, organized by women’s Studies Center, Visva-bharati, in collaboration with Rumi Foundation, Shantiniketan ; UGC seminar on Art, Aesthetics and Human Values at The Indian College of Arts and Draftsman ship; December Music Festival, Chennai; Jadavpur University, Kolkata; EZCC, Kolkata. As she has been associated with the field of journalism by profession, writing, and creative writing too, has been her point of interest. She has contributed research-oriented articles too, to numerous prestigious anthologies on music. Contact: http://somalipanda@wordpress.com /somalipanda@gmail.com.
