Kolkata, May 30 (Washington Bangla Radio): Partha Sarathi Joarder has been consistently making films on social issues - from sex education (Masoom) to the chit fund scandals (Kagojer Nouko). One of his ongoing projects Anya Naa is currently being shot at different locations in the city. This WBRi correspondent learned about various aspects of the film from the director himself at The Sonnet Hotel where shooting of one of the sequences of the film was taking place. The sequence which was shot is that of Nigel Akkara narrating the script of his film to a producer.

“The film is about a struggling film director Aloke (Nigel) and his wife Ananya (Ananya). Aloke makes ad-films but wants to venture into making feature films. Hence he had to struggle hard to get a foothold in the industry. On the other hand, the demands of his family are constantly on the rise. The film shows how in order to meet the growing demands of the family, his wife turns to prostitution to earn extra money for the family” said the director.

“The film’s name Anya Naa has been derived from Ananya’s name. Ananya suits the character of the typical housewife very well and hence I decided to cast her for the role of Aloke’s wife. Nigel came to my mind as he has the ruffled struggling look which is required to play this part in the film,” said Joarder.

The script of the film is written by Ashim Ray Chowdhury and the story is by Partha Sarathi Joarder. The director stressed on the fact that this is a very realistic story. The demands of the family increase but the means to earn money does not increase simultaneously.

Most of the shooting of the film has been done in Kolkata. A two day shooting schedule at Mandarmoni is on the cards. The shooting at Mandarmoni is for a sequence and not for any song.

There are five songs in the film and the music direction is by Samik Sinha. “There are no artists from Mumbai who have lent voices to the songs. Rupam Islam, Usha Uthup and Anwesha have performed the songs. Usha Uthup has even lip synced with a party song in the film. The lyrics by Sreejato and Gautam Sushmit will appeal to the audience,” added the director.

Actress Koneenica Banerjee is playing a negative character and is very excited to get such a role. “I have been playing positive characters for a long time. I am very happy that I finally got a chance to play a negative character. This character is as challenging as the positive characters that I have been playing so far. My character is initially a struggler who later becomes established after securing a job at a Tours and Travels company,” added the actress. Apart from this film, the actress has two films ready for release - one is Ganesh Talkies and the other is Mahakash Kando. The actress was straight-forward in telling us that she will not be working in any TV serials now. This is simply because she feels that the acting is repeatitive  and one just has to do routine stuff daily. However in feature films, she will be getting a chance to enhance her acting skills.

Nigel Akkara is playing the character of Aloke and considers himself lucky to have bagged such a role. Working with Joarder and with actresses like Ananya Chatterjee and Koneenica has helped him learn more about acting. “I am not a trained actor. I act as I feel the character should have done in the situation. Ananya has been very helpful as she has been giving me useful tips which I try and follow,” said Nigel. The actor is giving his hundred percent for the role and he hopes to get a good response from the audience.

The shooting of Anya Naa is nearly complete and the film will release soon.
