Kolkata, May 5, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): Distracted by electronics, new generation kids in India are losing touch with rhymes that many of us have listened to during our kindergarten years. It is due to this reason that Debjani Ghosh came up with the idea of recording an album especially for young kids to get them acquainted with these rhymes. This album of English rhymes titled ‘Hooray’ was launched recently at Music World by eminent Tollywood actor Soham, Raj Kalyan Roy, Gautam Debnath and Arijit Mitra (principal of Nalanda School). Also present at the launch was Debjani Ghosh’s teacher Uma from whom she had learned the nursery rhymes herself.

Debjani Ghosh has been teaching nursery students for the past twenty six years, and came to realize that the children of the present generation in Kolkata, India are losing the magical touch of the rhymes in their lives. They do not know much about these rhymes. Debjani Ghosh said, “I have seen students who are very attached to some animations and they hardly know about these rhymes. If my CD reaches out to at least fifty children, I will at least be able to make them realize the magic of the rhymes.”

Her earlier album was on Rabindranath Tagore’s poems named “Arghya” that had ten poems by the poet. She also plans to record and release a Bengali Nursery Rhymes / Children's Songs album featuring Bangla chotoder gaan like “hattimatimtim” and others.

Hooray contains thirty rhymes in English, including “Pussy cat pussy cat”, “twinkle twinkle little star”, “Jack and Jill”, “London Bridge”, “Hickory Dickory Dock”, “Johny Johny”, “Jingle Bells”, “Hot cross buns”, “Mary had a little lamb”, “Ba Ba Black Sheep” and many others. The songs have been compiled and sung by Debjani Ghosh and child artists Gourangi Debnath, Aishani Dasgupta, Poulami Debnath and Prithwijit Chakraborty. Gautam Debnath was in charge of the sound recording for this album. Subrata Mukherjee who has designed music for numerous albums is behind the sound design of Hooray.
