Fremont, CA, May 30, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio) The beautiful Actress and model Anusmriti Sarkar from Mumbai - a romantic at heart, a fan of Madhubala and Salman Khan - plays Inspector Ritwika Mitra with Prosenjit Chatterji in and as Bikram Singha (2012) - the Bangla movie directed by Rajib Biswas. Her next Bangla movie is BARRAGE 86 with Indraneil Sengupta and Victor Banerjee playing her dad, and her forthcoming Telugu film Ista Sakhi is under production, as is her upcoming Bollywood film (where Amitabh Bachchan appears in a guest role). Anusmriti gets candid with Sayantanee Dutt in this intimate and comprehensive audio interview, chatting about her career, films and much more.
Anusmriti is an accidental actress in the sense acting in films was not really one of her goals - she was just having a lot of fun taking up the great many modeling offers coming her way as well opportunities for acting in south Indian (Telugu language) films. After appearing in Chandra Mouli's Vankai Fry (2011) she accepted an offer for playing the role of Ranjana in the 2008 Hindi film Don Muthu Swami directed by Ashim Samanta. In this, her Bollywood debut feature film, Anusmriti's co-stars were Mithun Chakraborty, Hrishita Bhatt, Shakti Kapoor, Rohit Roy, Dolly Minhas, Rakesh Bedi etc. Her 2nd Telugu film - Bharat Parepally's Ista Sakhi - is currently on the floors.
Anusmriti's first Tollywood Kolkata Bengali movie was Bhorer Alo (2011) co-starring Priyanshu Chatterjee, Rituparna Sengupta, Rohit Roy and others. In Bhorer Alo, she plays a double role, one of which is Payel - one of the two sisters of a middle-aged man. Bhorer Alo also holds the distinction of being the first film for which fashion designer Masaba Gupta was in charge of the wardrobe.
In Rajib Biswas' Bikram Singha - The Lion is Back (Bengali, 2012), Anusmriti plays Inspector Ritwika Mitra who works closely with super-cop Bikram Singha played by Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee. The role involved much action and Anusmriti shares with us a couple of anecdotes from the shooting of Bikram Singha.
One scene involved fighting with baddies with a sword and then falling from a height - goaded on by the relentless action / fight director, Anusmriti did manage to complete the scene, though she humorously admits to having hurt her arm, thus making that scene a truly challenging one. Even Prosenjit Chatterjee once hurt his shoulder, says Anusmriti, while shooting for an action scene and it is a measure of the actor's dedication that he stopped the director from packing up for the day and instead continued shooting after a half-hour break.
Also do not miss Anusmriti's story of getting late for a flight due to a longer-than-expected shooting of a scene in the rain and rushing to the airport straight from the location to catch the flight in drenched clothes much to the amazement of fellow travelers at the airport.
The shooting of Bikram Singha took place for around a month in Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, a week in Chennai and then Kolkata. Some song sequences were shot in Jordan, an Arabian country in Middle Eastern Asia.
Having worked in Mumbai's Bollywood, South-Indian film industry as well as Kolkata's Tollywood Movie industry, Anusmriti's take-away from Kolkata is the unique warm loving and emotional environment. Mumbai is thoroughly professional and extremely competitive. The south has a lot of glamor and strong showbiz environment. But in Kolkata, all members of the film unit of Bikram Singha were visibly melancholy on the last day of the shooting - which meant the days of family-like camaraderie were over, for now.
Join us in wishing Anusmriti Sarkar a spectacular career. Here are some more images from the picture gallery of the hot young actress.
