Kolkata, May 29, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio/ Penning Creations) Eka Soumya was organized under the initiative of Srijon to felicitate the musical trail of the experienced singer Soumya Bose. The event was hosted in Gyan Manch on the 22nd of May. It is his signature style to begin every program or performance with a Rabindra Sangeet and he lived up to it even in this program because of his immense respect as well as admiration towards the great Rabindranath Tagore.

Soumya Bose had started his career in the Bengali musical industry of 25 years back. His first big performance was in the Akashbani where he started his journey with Tagore’s famous composition “poush toder dak diyeche….” and from then on it has been an ever evolving journey from a singer to a music arranger then a composer and a lyricist as well. His first original composition was “Tui Phele Esechis”. Though he is a known figure in the music industry of Tollywood as a composer but he is a gifted singer at the same time and his expertise in music genres range from Indian classical to, Nazrul Geeti and folk songs to commercial Bengali songs. He has even introduced a new genus of music in the industry which he calls “Bangzhal”. The songs being named so, because of the predominant influence of the sufi ghazals style in these compositions.

Distinguished figures of the industry like Indrani Sen, Monomoy, Saikat Sen, Sumitra Sen, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Pallab Ghosh, Sanghamitra Chowdhury, Rishi Mukherjee and many more celebrities attended the event to congratulate the brilliant artist. Soumya Bose even dedicated an original composition to Sumitra Sen for completing the melodious 60 years journey.  The track was called “Amar Ganer Chole Tomar Poth Beye” and he has drawn inspiration from Tagore’s “Tumi Kemon Kore Gaan Koro Hey Guni” while composing this particular track. The elderly singer Sumitra Sen congratulated Soumya for his achievements and thanked him as well.

The audience also got the opportunity to hear the melodious voice of the composer in many of the numbers like “Bhije Jawa Din” which is a Rupankar song and the effect of flute in this particular number was truly mesmerizing. Other song sung by him in the event were “Phule Phule Ki Kotha Kane Kane”, “Oi Dure Dure Ki Khela Chole”, Bristi Rongeen Jokhon” which were equally gripping. The singer Monomoy even commented that Soumya Bose is greater singer than a music composer. The great singer Indrani Sen and actor Chiranjeet Chakroborty also praised Soumya.

Soumya Bose has been trained under the maestros like Pandit Ajay Chakroborty, Paramesh Banerjee, Pandit Gyanprakash Ghosh, Acharya Jayanta Bose and Shankar Das. He has brought a number of albums as well. In his famous album “Ichhe” all the numbers are sung and composed by Soumya himself. Some other eminent albums of Soumya are Seidin, Nirala and others. In the album “The Gurus of Bandish” featuring classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan and Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Soumya has worked as a music arranger. He has given music direction in films like Keloda in Kashmir in the past and his upcoming projects include “Chupichupi” and “Hijibiji”.

Apart from being an artist, he is also a sculptor as well as has expertise in playing different kinds of musical instruments. The multitalented person was praised by the eminent personalities and he was also wished for his future endeavors. His family was also present to support him.
