Kolkata, May 27, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio / Penning Creations) Shreya Ghosal, Anupam Roy, Shilajit, Rupam Islam - all on one stage in Kolkata on the evening of a sweaty May 26 outside Hiland Park Mall. It was the much awaited Audio Soundtrack OST Music Release function of Srijit Mukherjee’s new Bengali feature film “Hemlock Society”.

The event saw the presence of all of Bengal’s heart-throbs together on stage with an extra dash of charm added with the presence of the beautiful leading lady of the movie Koel Mullick. Adding to the fun and entertainment factor of the evening were the “jocks” of Fever 104 FM, Meet and Shekhar who were there on stage in turns to further turn up the heat.
Shreya Ghosal, looking stunning and unperturbed even in that 4 “o” clock heat was absolutely excited about the prospects of the movie and was heard saying that she is really proud to be associated with Srijit who is a great friend and a very creative director. The event kick started with Shreya being called upon stage to sing “Eito Ami Chai”, a song from the movie which has been sung by Shreya in the movie. Shrey’s “Hello Kolkata” was enough to set the mood and stage ready to rock along with the song.
Srijit Mukherjee was the perfect host as he was perfectly managing the show taking turns to appear on stage, be with his guests and with the eagerly waiting journalists too. In a very short interview with the director we got to know that whenever Srijit plans his movies, he just aims to do “something out of the box” and tries not to repeat himself. We couldn’t chat with Srijit long enough though, as it was now Shilajit up on stage and ready to rock.

Anupam Roy live performance
Shilajit in his characteristic style won the audience with the song “Jol Phoding” and all the more added to the mood of the of the evening. The kind of fun the audience seemed to be having washed away all thoughts of the rising mercury and dripping sweat which has been the center of concern for the ‘Kolkatans’ for quite some time now.
Shilajit and Rupam Islam
While Anupam was always there on the stage playing the guitar and jamming with Shreya and Shilajit, our very own Rupam Islam was called upon next. It was Rupam who kind of unveiled the subtle meaning of the movie. While his first presentation was the “Benche Thakar Gaan” his second presentation was the “Phiriye Dewar Gaan” which is a song from the movie Hemlock Society. It is with this song that the movie’s message “If you know death, you can know life better” comes in front of the audience. In praise of Rupams’ efforts and dedication, Srijit only had to say that Rupam has delivered the song just like a dream and it was only Rupam Islam who had the caliber to actually peep into the minds of Anupam and Srijit and deliver the song just the way they had wanted it.
Missing from the event were Lopamudra Mitra, Rupankar and, Parambrata Chattopadhyay (who is traveling in the UK). All arrangements were made to ensure that Hemlock Society right from its very first outreach makes an everlasting impression on the audience and to put that to effect, not were they just treated with some rocking performances; they even got to see their very own Koel Malick sitting right in the front row in full view of the masses, glamorous and beautiful as ever.
After some rocking performances, now was the turn of the actual CD release ceremony. For this special moment the entire team of Hemlock Society present was called upon stage. RJ Meet and Shekhar did their best to get the masses all stirred up and excited for the final event which was the release and distribution of the music CD of Hemlock Society. The ribbons were untied and the camera went ‘click.click,click’. The CD release ceremony was also the time when Srijit and Anupam took turns to thank some of the other team members who were behind these wonderful compositions. Special mention was made of Mr. Raja Narayan Deb who was responsible for the music arrangement and several other activities as well as Mr. Indradip Dasgupta whose creativity was the driving factor of the movie’s background score.
The CD release was not just it, the show went on with Anupam taking complete charge of the stage and the evening and presenting some of his most popular numbers one after the other.
With Srijit Mukherjee and Anupam’s names associated to a movie and its music, the audience already expects a superhit and from the looks of it, Hemlock Society is surely not going to fail either its audience’s expectations or leave the cash registers of the production house Venkatesh Films blank. Here’s wishing the entire team All the Very Best for this wonderful thought and presentation.
