R R Pictures presented Harjeet produced by Pranab Roy and Gobindo Roy directed by Manu Sen. The black and white classic Bengali movie premiered in Darpana, Prachi and Indira movie theaters in Kolkata in January of 1957, starring Mahanayak Uttam Kumar opposite Bengali actress Anita Guha as the unusual lead pair.

The supporting cast include venerable members of Tollywood of the era - Jiben Basu, Swagata Chakraborty, Tulsi Chakraborty, Nripati Chatterjee, Basanta Chowdhury, Molina Debi, Anup Kumar, Kamal Mitra, Pahadi Sanyal  and others.

Har Jit is based on a story by Premendra Mitra with screenplay written by Manu Sen. Music director Robin Chatterjee composed music to lyrics by Pranab Roy. The Bengali film songs were performed by playback singers Prasun Banerjee, Gaytri Basu, Dhananjoy Bhattacharya, A T Kanan, Shyamal Mitra and Sandhya Mukherjee. Sandhya Mukherjee's rendition of Madhu Malati Dake Aye remains a staple Bangla classic song.

Bibhuti Chakraborty was the director of photography whereas Sunil Sarkar was the art director. Sailen Ganguly was in charge of makeup and wardrobe. Haar Jeet was edited by Dulal Dutta.

A somewhat complex family drama that permeated Bangla movie industry of the time, the story fo Harjeet involves biological and adopted children lost and found across life's ups and downs of real and foster parents. Everything squares out with a generally happy ending but not without tragedy.
