Sabyasachi Mukherjee | Fashion Designer From Kolkata | Calcutta Fashion Design Goes Global

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a Fashion Designer from Kolkata, India. He has his own Fashion line of creations, and has a global footprint. His unique creations that are somewhat non-traditional as well as cross-cultural have earned him his own niche in the crowded Fashion Design world, so much so that is a regular invitee to global Fashion Shows, like the Mercedes Benz Fashion week at New York City, the Milan Fashion Week, the UPS Delivering Fashion’s Future Global Fashion Week, and so on. Among many awards, he is a recipient of the "Most Outstanding Designer of India" award by the Times of India.

Born and brought up in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, Sabyasachi completed his high school from St.Xaviers, Calcutta and graduated from the National Institute for Fashion Technology, Kolkata with triple awards in 1999. He started his career with costume designing for Bombay movies in the Bollywood Film industry, which he still does today. He also launched his own fashion designer label soon after graduating from NIFT Kolkata and his Designer fashion-wear retails in New Delhi (at Carma and Ogaan),  Mumbai / Bombay (at Melange and  Ensemble),  Kolkata / Calcutta (at Espee and Intrigue) and Hyderabad (at Origins and Oorja).

Sabyasachi won the Femina British Council Most Outstanding Young Designer of India award in 2001, which earned him a trip to London to intern with the Salisbury-based Fashion Designer Georgina Von Etzdorf. Sabyasachi went on to win the 2003 Grand Winner award at Mercedes New Asia fashion week in Singapore. Sabyasachi went global with the 2004 Kaula Lampur Fashion week.  His extraordinary collection "The Frog Princess" was critically acclaimed and earned him long-lasting fame and appreciation. Sabyasachi is the only Indian to have been invited to the Milan Fashion Week, Italy (in 2004) to showcase his creations.
