Calcutta, May 31, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / OOBE): Since 1989 LOKKRISHTI has continuously made a good number of rich & original “BANGLA NATOK”, which has drawn respectful attention from elite class and enormous mass of Bengali viewers. During this 21 years of their journey, “LOKKRISHTI” has constantly engaged themselves in serving and promoting theatre. Laboratory, Hing Ting, Krishna Gahawar, Page 4, etc. are few of their productions.

On 24th of May, 2011 the theatre group staged their new production called “Teen Nombor Chokh” (The Third Eye). Dramatized by theatre personality and actor Phalguni Chatterjee, this piece of drama is based on the play of eminent Bengali novelist Samaresh Majumdar. The director felt an excitement within in, enlivening up this play that has virtually opened a third eye of all mankind.

Satyaprakash a retired middle class widower, with flowering passage of time  realises, due to  a sheer shortage of money, his dream of a little house with a small garden, will never be fulfilled and thus, out of frustration, he decides to commit suicide. Everyone of his family gets stunned and tries to restrain him but fail. There comes a twist in the storyline when Pratima, the mid-aged daughter-in-law of Satyaprakash suddenly gets the news of receiving an unexpected huge amount of money from an unknown dead person. In due course of time, through gradual unfolding of series of humorous and comical events, it reveals some gross nakedness of so-called polished, educated society. Ultimately the fact is revealed that the entire money earning story is totally false and that was made up in order to save Satyaprakash’s life. Hence the drama winds up his morale: even in this post-scientific age, the so called pseudo-renaissance man swims in the dark ocean of pretensions and barbaric instincts, caused due to the blindness of inner-soul.

Satyaprakash is played by Phalguni Chatterjee and Pratima by Rumki Chattrejee, who also is the Costume Designer. Other actors are Dolon Chatterjee, Prasun Bhattacharjee, Monalisa Chatterjee, Sampayan Lahiri, Nikunja Bihari Sarkar and Partha Chatterjee.

The next show of “Teen Number Chokh” is on 8th of July, 2011 at Academy Of Fine Arts, Calcutta.
