MF Hussain joins the ever growing fan list of Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, May 18, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Kreation Guru) The eminent Indian painter MF Hussain is well known for his liking of beautiful and substantial women. The world has witnessed the typical portrayal of the stunning Bollywood beauty Madhuri Dixit by the painter in the Gajagamini series. He had even ventured into the medium of film making for creating art on celluloid with Madhuri Dixit. The Bharat Mata series is also a famous work of MF Hussain. No wonder then that the latest fancy of the painter will catch the attention of the media and the general public alike.

It seems the successful political leader from West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is the latest muse of Fida Hussain. The paint portrays the Bengal chief minister in waiting as the ‘essence of Indian womanhood’. The white and black graffiti sketched to portray the Trinamool Congress chief, depicts Mamata flying a dove of peace and Royal Bengal tiger by her side as a mascot. She resembles Durga, the goddess of strength in the painting. It seems MF Hussain has found his next muse in the strong and powerful political leader Mamata.  The proverb that ‘power attracts’ is true.

Mamata Banerjee herself is an accomplished painter too. She paints in her free times and it is a stress buster for her. It is the love of painting that makes the popular mass leader go the extra steps to take out the time for the activity from her busy schedule. She even had exhibition of her paintings that earned her acclaims from the critics. She even sold her painting to raise funds during the election campaign. Mamata loves painting colorful landscapes instead of the complicated abstract, cubist and figurative forms which are the favorites with MF Hussain.

Music is also a passion of Mamata Banerjee. The union minister understands and appreciates work of art. We sure hope that she will acknowledge the efforts of the painter. The painting will be an ode to the political struggle and the popularity of the mass leader. It recognizes the ever increasing popularity of Mamata Banerjee.

Hussain left India in the year 2006 after the right wing Hindutva groups started demonstrating against his representation of Bharat Mata and other Hindu goddesses in nude. This activity has hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus across the world and the demonstrations against him pressurized him to leave India and take up a temporary residence at London. He used to divide his stay in between London and Dubai. However, last year he was offered the citizenship of Doha which he promptly accepted. The controversial painter is now spending his times in self exile.
