RANJANA AMI AR ASHBO NA (Bengali, 2011): Anjan Dutta Returns as Actor in the First Bengali Rock Musical - Trailer

[Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbo Na - An Anjan Dutta film]Calcutta, May 16, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Anjan Dutta's return to the silver screen as an actor is eagerly awaited in the Bengali feature-film "Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbo Na". The release date of the movie, which is also directed by Anjan Dutta, is expected to be June 17, 2011.

The film is presented by DC Media, produced by R Sarkar and features music directed by Anjan Dutta's son and a capable singer-songwriter-composer in his own right, Neel Dutta.

As we had reported way back in November of 2010 (in this post), Bengali TV actress Parno Mitra, who plays the lead role of Ranjana in Anjan Dutta's feature film, learnt to play the guitar for her role in the film. The film has been shot extensively at the historic Lahabari on Amherst Street of Kolkata. Acclaimed drummer Nandan Bagchi also appears in a significant role.

In one of the first promo releases, the movie is billed as a "Bengali Rock Musical" and features Dutta's character on stage performing one of his earliest and wildly popular songs from his 1994 album "Shunte ki chao" - the song which the movie's title shares its name with.

He is subsequently accused of having killed his wife and child by an angry young woman (Parno Mitra). The scarcity of Bengali female rock singers is lamented, and perhaps in the film the young woman takes up the challenge and performs another one of Anjan Dutta's popular rock numbers on stage.

A well-known Tagore composition is also performed in a non-conventional way on a terrace with the lead characters generally having a good time.

The audio soundtrack album of Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbo Na is scheduled to be released on May 30, 2011. Watch the trailer online.
