Calcutta, May 15, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) Rituparno Ghosh’s latest film Noukadubi based on a short story by Rabindranath Tagore is essentially a story of relationships between 4 people and the effect that it has on them as a result of those relationships. The film is produced by Bollywood Badshah Subhash Ghai under his banner.

Noukadubi (which is also being released in Hindi as Kashmakash) is the first film of Rituparno where there has been playback singing as it till now in his previous films the songs were only sung in the background and that is the unique thing about this film starring Prasenjit, Jishu Sengupta and the Sen sisters, Raima and Ria in the lead roles. The film has music by Sanjoy-Raja and the lyrics-composition are by Tagore. The singers are Paroma Banerjee, Srikanta Acharya, Supratik Das, Abhirup Guhathakurta and Sudeshna Chatterjee.

The film had a very unique music launch this weekend where the launch took place on a moving launch M.S.Athaya on the river Ganges while the event was going on and even after the event was over. Rituparno,Subhash Ghai, the music directors Sanjoy-Raja and singers Paroma Banerjee and Sudeshna Chatterjee were aboard the boat. It was a fitting way to enjoy the occasion and since the name of the film is Noukadubi, why not have the launch on the Ganges itself? This was an extremely special occasion for this correspondent as well taking into consideration the uniqueness of the event.
