Apr 28, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) Egaro (The Eleven) is a forthcoming Bengali film based on the historic victory of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club of Calcutta against East Yorkshire Regiment of England by two goals to one on July 29, 1911 to win the IFA Shield.
Led by Captain Shibdas Bhaduri, the historic team of 11 consisted of Hiralal Mukherjee, Bhuti Sukul, Sudhir Chatterjee, Manmohan Mukherjee, Rajen Sengupta, Nilmadhav Bhattacharya, Kanu Roy, Habul Sarkar, Abhilash Ghosh, Bijoydas Bhaduri and Shibdas Bhaduri. There is a wonderful picture and article of this glorious day of Indian soccer at the Mohun Bagan web-site. Given such an achievement, it is a pity that India does not even appear in today's world soccer map, despite it's population that almost accounts for a quarter of the world's population.
Egaro stars acclaimed Indian actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay's grandson Ranadeep Bose. Check out the report on Egaro and Ranadeep in The Telegraph.
