“I believe in music, I believe in love” – She sings it, she believes it from heart.

Usha UthupShe is our very own didi, the eminent and renowned singer Usha Uthup.

Though she never learned music formally, she is always within us for her singing at every moment.

We can describe her as the queen of Indian Pop Music.

She has started her professional journey in 1969 from reputed Calcutta Restaurant, Trincas. With her gifted, unparallel voice she was the only artist to have recorded six albums in English with famous HMV/EMI. Today she sings in seventeen Indian and eight foreign languages. This is an achievement by itself.

She got the passion from music from SAMI sisters, the 1st Singing band of only ladies in the World. Formed in 1950s by sisters Uma and Indira, SAMI sisters later surprised audience by inclusion of younger sisters to Uma and Indira, Usha and Maya. Usha is nobody but our very own Didi, our very own Usha Uthup.

She is from southern part of India but she has made Kolkata her home town not only because of starting her career here but also because of finding her love, her husband here too at the very 1st night of singing at Trincas.

She is popular among all sectors of human society all over the World and she has got appreciation from common people to Country Leaders like Indira Gandhi, Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Arap Moi,  Nelson Mandela etc.

Her voice introduces her as the playback singer of substance, of sensation in Indian Film Industry and she is always in the heart of people with her unique voice, flowers on bun, gorgeous bangles, Kanjibharam and exclusive bindi with Bengali Alphabet ‘Ka” designed by herself.

Over the years Usha Uthup has won accolades from abroad as well as from within the country. Enlisted below are a few of them :
* Rajiv Gandhi Purashkar for national integration for quality music;
* Mahila Shiromoni Purashkar for international peace;
* Channel [V] award for outstanding achievement;
* The People's Support, for over 30 years

She has sung for many charitable causes - for The Red Cross, SPASTIC society of India , Mother Teresa related charities, cancer institutes, schools for the blind, old aged homes, government charity drives and various drought and flood relief funds. Further, she has also worked frequently and extensively for service organizations like the Rotary, Lions, Jaycees, Giants, SPCA etc. in National and International levels.

She once mesmerized Tagore lovers with her Album comprising Tagore Songs under guidance of none other than, Living Tagorian Legend, eminent singer Suchitra Mitra.

The Diva of Indian pop music celebrates four professional decades in the entertainment business, and while her contemporaries might be thinking of gentle retirement, Usha is still in the limelight with her singing.
